The Technology of Teaching

“Over the past two decades, government ICT policy both in Britain and abroad has rested on claims that ICT can change the nature and raise the quality of teaching and learning.  These claims appear to have an evidential basis, drawing upon a wide body of literature.” Reynolds, Treharne, Tripp (2003)

As society and technology change and advance, so does teaching, but are the teachers able to catch up and is the technology taking into account the technological skills of teachers?

This website is here to look at some of the more advanced technologies already in, or soon to take their place in the classroom.  I’ll examine the barriers teachers and learners face, the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of modern technology in education, and most importantly how to mitigate any potential problems technology can cause and fix problems you can face.

I teach English, Maths and ICT however as I am studying for my literacy specialism qualification, I will be focusing on the literacy aspect of using technology in my classes.

Teaching is all about not making any assumptions about your learners and the basis of the proper and effective use of  technology is the same.  For this reason I will not assume that you know how to find what you need on this website.

At the top of each page is the main menu.  Here you will find the pages within this site.  There is also a search box to the right side of each page where you can search for any word or phrase you like.  You can click on the red header at the top of the screen to return to the home page.

This essay is written to be relevant to the current state of technology in January 2010.
